OK What Now?

OK, Now What?

First things first, Congratulations!!! You have dated this guy for a long time and now he’s popped the question. He asked and you said yes! The majority of couples get engaged between Thanksgiving and Valentines Day and the timing is perfect. Family is all together to celebrate the holidays and your engagement announcement is just the icing on the cake.

My first bit of advice is: ENJOY THE RIDE! So many girls get wound so tight during the planning stage that they absolutely miss all the fun. These are some of the best days of your life, let the engagement bliss sink in. And remember, no matter how stressed out or over whelmed you feel, at the end of your wedding day you will be married to the man of your dreams. Remember to keep the main thing, the main thing!

OK, you have a lot of decisions to make on everything from the dress, wedding favors, cake tasting, listening to bands and DJ’s and the list goes on and on. But, the very first thing is picking the venue. I know what you are thinking, “You own two wedding venues, no wonder you want me to do that first” Well, of course, I wish every bride would choose us for the most important day of her life. But, I know it is not realistic for us to get ALL the weddings (even though we would love that) The fact is , there are a lot of wonderful venues in the Memphis area. The thing is to pick the one that best fits your personality and style. But if you choose Heartwood Hall, Cedar Hall or any other location, the venue is still the first decision you have to make.

Why? Well first of all, many of the vendors will not even meet with you until you have your date and your venue. You cannot even set the date until you have yor venue. So, let’s say you call a band or DJ to book them. The first questions they are going to ask will be: What is your wedding date? You get the idea, everything revolves around the date.

Another reason to choose your venue first is the style. Maybe you decide on a ballroom style reception following a beautiful church wedding. Or maybe a Garden wedding followed by a cocktail party and then on to the reception in a rustic bet very elegant barn. Those are 2 very different looks. So the venue that you choose, may steer your decisions on your dress, colors, flowers even the style of music.

Another thing that I recommend is looking at several venues. Be sure to get all the costs disclosed up front.Nothing is more upsetting than to get a FINAL BILL on the day of the wedding when you thought all of that had been handled 2 weeks ago. SURPRISE!!! way to add stress to an already stressful day.

Be sure to compare apples to apples.Maybe one venue offers the venue only; then it is your job to bring in tables, chairs, linens, china, wine glasses all the way down to every fork will have to be rented and brought in. Another venue may be all inclusive. Where everything is provided and all you need to worry about is the cake, florals and music

You can see, there are a lot of decisions to consider. You may even want to do a spread sheet with each venue you visit to get a true cost. Don’t let all of this upset you or confuse you. Remember, THIS IS YOUR DAY!! Enjoy every single minute of this planning stage.

Happy Wedding Day,

Denise
